Parfait Paris

In Anaheim, rainbow-colored macarons and other sweet treats from a San Diego French bakery chain

Some of Anaheim Packing District’s restaurants are one-offs; others are second or third locations of established restaurants from elsewhere in Orange County or its neighbors. Located on the top floor of the Anaheim Packing House, Parfait Paris (previously Le Parfait Paris) is a counter-only outpost of a decade-old patisserie and boulangerie with multiple San Diego locations. Their larger Sky Deck shop in San Diego is shown above.

We were immediately drawn to their rainbow-colored display of French macarons: Red and pink are strawberry and raspberry, purple and blue are honey lavender and jasmine Earl Grey, green and yellow are Sicilian pistachio and lemon, orange and black are passion fruit mango and Oreo. Various off-white and brown tones come from Madagascar vanilla, caramel sea salt, toasted marshmallow, Italian espresso, crispy Nutella, choconut, and galaxie chocolate noir. Across several visits, we’ve found that virtually every one of the cookies had enough flavor intensity and apparent freshness to satisfy but not thrill for $3 per bite or two.

In addition to croissants, several types of cake by the slice, and cruffins (croissant muffins), the counter also offers a collection of crepes, sandwiches, bonbons, coffees, teas, and gelatos. We found the macarons to be fun as a one-time splurge and undeniably appealing as a collection, though at nearly Ladurée prices, they’re tough to justify buying with any frequency. Unsurprisingly, Parfait Paris offers them in gift boxes, which now rank high on our list of “best things to buy as elaborate apologies.”
