Describing itself as “committed to upending hierarchies of race, class, gender, and culture,” The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) combines exhibition, retail, and office spaces within a 12,700-foot industrial building in the city’s downtown Arts District. ICA LA features up to four exhibitions at a time, recently including a Chilean-born artist’s exploration of women, nature, and landscapes, a Mexico-born artist’s mural addressing attacks on immigrant and undocumented populations, and a Saudi Arabia-born artist’s multimedia commentary on the U.S. military.
Admission to ICA LA is free, including free parking at an adjacent lot. The gallery is notably open only Wednesdays through Sundays from 11am to 6pm, and closed on public holidays.
