Sake 2 Me Sushi

Tustin's latest AYCE sushi restaurant has plump cuts of fish and fair prices

Up until Tustin’s Sushi Damu became too expensive given its quality, we weren’t actively looking for a better AYCE sushi restaurant. Thankfully, there are now great alternatives just down the street: Sake 2 Me has two locations roughly five minutes away from each other in Tustin, with the newer Newport Avenue location in the same plaza as THH Sandwiches and Curry Do, only three minutes away from Sushi Damu. They are competitively priced ($33 pp lunch, $38pp dinner) and similar in all other regards: very good quality fresh fish, plenty of menu choices, and pretty attentive service.

Like other AYCE sushi places as of late, Sake 2 Me’s specialty rolls tend to be mixed and matched from a handful of proteins: tuna, artificial crab, shrimp, eel, and salmon. But there’s no skimping on the plump slices of fish.

You also get access to a large collection of nigiri choices, many appetizers, and a few rice-free carpaccios, specifically yellowtail, salmon, and albacore. Unlike Damu, Sake 2 Me doesn’t charge a steep premium for these riceless fish items.

Two tips: Order carefully, as portion sizes for the specialty rolls are generous and can quickly overwhelm you, leading to the risk of leftovers. And come on an empty stomach, as there are some great nigiri and rolls to be enjoyed here.
