Pam’s Coffy – LA
In Los Angeles, Quentin Tarantino's movie theater-adjacent coffee shop also serves cereal and nostalgia
Located in LA’s Los Feliz neighborhood (just across the street from Handles Coffee and only a short walk from the La Luz de Jesus Gallery), director Quentin Tarantino’s cafe Pam’s Coffy opened in 2024 immediately next to his previously renovated Vista Theater. Named after famed actress Pam Grier – the star of Tarantino’s Jackie Brown – and her 1973 film Coffy, the shop sells $6 lattes, drip coffees, iced teas, bowls of Cap’n Crunch cereal, and a few hot food items including mini tacos, taquitos, Impossible nuggets, and breakfast sandwiches. On our visit, slices of cherry almond pie were going for $5 each, with cookies ($3.25) and coffee cake ($6.50) on either side of that pricing.
While the two lattes we sampled probably wouldn’t pass a modern version of the “gourmet” sniff test run by Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction character Jimmie, they were both pretty good: Butterscotch caramel and blueberry vanilla were built with reasonable doses of flavoring syrup, heavy portions of milk, and solid drip coffee. Drip flavors named after Tarantino characters and brands – Black Mamba, Big Kahuna, and Jimmie’s Vanilla – are also available, along with matcha lemonades and chai.
Drinks and snacks aside, another major reason to visit Pam’s over Handles is the former’s decor, which includes everything from John Travolta lunch boxes and 1970s movie posters to 1980s cereals and drink holders with “a cup by Quentin Tarantino” branding. Guests also get access to merch ranging from Pam’s Coffy-branded hats, shirts, and totes to stickers and pins, plus pre-ground bags of the house Black Mamba coffee ($23.50).
Consider a visit if you’re a Tarantino fan, as we are.
