Mr. Brainwash Art Museum – Closed

In Beverly Hills, an artist reimagines classic imagery with pop and street art themes

Made famous in the documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop, documentary filmmaker Thierry Guetta became street artist Mr. Brainwash after becoming inspired by (and learning techniques from) Banksy, then opened this Beverly Hills gallery to exhibit and sell his work, as well as souvenirs. As a spectacle, the gallery was amazing, co-opting some of the art world’s best-known public domain imagery – and pop iconography – for frequently humorous and sometimes ironic juxtapositions with modern themes. Additional displays across the multi-floor exhibition space actually placed you inside of art, historic and otherwise, and gave you a shot at creation in a communal chalkboard room. Whether this is art is in the eye of the beholder, and we’d say so; we truly enjoyed visiting.

Admission to the Museum was $20 for adults and $10 for children, with multiple paid parking options in the Beverly Hills neighborhood around Rodeo Drive. Beyond the official gift shop, a small gallery exhibiting and selling a narrow range of Mr. Brainwash prints was free to visit immediately next door. Having opened in December 2022, the museum permanently closed in January 2026 to make room for a completely new Louis Vuitton/LVMH flagship retail and dining campus, which is initially scheduled for a 2029 opening.
