Monday to Sunday
Previously known as Mealtop, a Korean shaved ice and dessert shop at Buena Park's The Source
Originally opened in 1985 in South Korea, the shaved ice (bingsoo), coffee, and cake cafe Mealtop was one of the earliest businesses at Buena Park’s substantially Korean dining, shopping, and entertainment center The Source, occupying a fairly spacious, clean, and prominent third floor space near K Soul Food and dPot: a light and bright cafe contrasting with the first floor’s darker coffee, tea, and souffle pancake shop Basilur, with a pleasant outdoor seating area immediately next to the mall’s semi-famous outdoor signage. In 2023, Mealtop rebranded to Monday to Sunday – known in Korea as MontoSun – and expanded its menu to include a handful of savory brunch toasts, such as avocado, salmon, ricotta basil, and bacon cheese.
Over multiple years of occasionally stopping into this location, we had only sampled their oversized macaron cookies (~$3-5) and drinks, which were comparatively reasonably priced. While some of their macaron flavors were basic – salted caramel, strawberry, coffee – others were less common, with a rotating selection that included injeolmi, Vietnamese coffee, chocolate brownie, yuzu, blueberry yogurt, cheddar cheese, pineapple cake, and jolly pong. Served individually wrapped in plastic, they originally ranged in price from $2.50 to $3.50 before settling at $4. By contrast with classic macarons, Monday to Sunday’s tended to be thick and overstuffed, with solid flavors and nice presentation that contrasted with over-the-top and cartoon-styled versions sold at the first floor macaron and tanghulu shop Sweet Box.
At some point in 2025, Monday to Sunday got rid of their macarons. And in early 2026, our longstanding curiosity about the bingsoo eventually got the best of us.
While still expensive for a bowl of shaved ice, the matcha bingsoo ($13.50) turned out to be quite good: a very large bowl of matcha powder-dusted, fluffy ice above a reservoir of sweet milk, plus red beans and two chewy, sweet rice cake cubes on the side. Certainly enough for multiple people to share, this dessert isn’t complex – nor are alternative versions such as injeolmi, strawberry, coffee, and melon yogurt ($12.75 to $13.75) – but it’s a nice way for a couple to cool off together on a hot SoCal day. Those seeking alternatives can order injeolmi pancakes ($13), injeolmi toast ($14.25), and a variety of savory brunch toasts ($15 to $17). These prices notably tend to be higher than rival Korean bingsoo shop Sul & Beans in Buena Park and Irvine.
Monday to Sunday’s coffees, teas, and sweet soda “ades” generally run from $4.25 to $8, including lattes in the middle of that range, cream topped coffees towards the higher end, and ceremonial grade matcha drinks at the top. We’ve tried the Spanish Cream Top Latte ($7.25) and several ades ($6.25), each quite good – fair alternatives (albeit with fewer choices) to those at The Source’s newer, oversized cafe and bakery Seed & Water. Overall, though we miss the macarons already, this remains a nice spot for drinks and snacks, with an especially nice view if you’re sitting outdoors.
