Mod Pizza

Three OC locations of a national pizza chain focus on customized, individual pizzas and salads

With three locations in Orange County and hundreds of additional locations across 28 states, Mod Pizza serves fairly basic pizzas with one major feature: personalization. Guests can choose from 6″ or 11″ personal pizzas, with the 11″ version coming in either regular or thick (“mega”) crust versions, then select from 40 different toppings to make their own ideal pizza. Nearly 10 pre-designed pizzas are available for easy ordering if you don’t want to customize, along with four common salads, garlic bread, drinks, and mini-cake desserts.

While we found the pizzas here (shown in regular 11″ and Mega versions) to be only alright – not the best dough, sauce, or cheese you’ll find in Orange County – we appreciate the wide variety of toppings and concept of giving everyone an individual meal to match their tastes. Since these pizzas aren’t sized for sharing, a family of four may not eat as inexpensively at Mod as at more aggressively priced chains such as Dominos, but Mod uses higher-quality ingredients, blankets rather than sprinkles them on pizzas, and maintains actual dining rooms, all positives. We also appreciate both the quality of Mod’s service, and its corporate-level commitments to positive, cause-based fundraising, which set it apart from the pack.
