In-sīt Coffee
Less than awesome coffee drinks and desserts in Buena Park and Costa Mesa
As much as we love Buena Park’s largely Korean dining and shopping center The Source, drinks aren’t its strong suit – there are plenty of options, but many of them are disappointing. In-Sīt Coffee (pronounced Insight) is just one example: The shop has an attractively modern, industrial look and a nice menu of coffees and desserts, but most of the things we tried at both this location and another store in Costa Mesa were not great.
On our first visit, we tried affogato ice creams, which were totally fine but pretty basic, as well as matcha and tiramisu croffles, which were disappointingly cold and stale-tasting. We felt no need to repeat them on our second visit, so instead tried a chocolate cookie, which tasted largely like gritty batter. We asked about their bakery, and learned that In-Sīt sources candied croissants and other baked goods from Nonna Mercato in Long Beach, rather than making them in-house.
The drinks we’ve tried here were all below par. From an iced peppermint mocha with very little peppermint or chocolate flavor to a rose latte that had only the slightest hint of rose, and a not particularly good strawberry milk, we all walked away saying that we didn’t need to revisit again.
Our best experience here was with canned sodas from the Buena Park location’s refrigerator, which at least lived up to the flavor expectations raised by their packaging. We would have those again – not as a first choice – if we needed a quiet-ish place to sit and relax while visiting The Source.
