Dosa Place / India Palace

A long-time Tustin champion of spicy Indian foods transitions to (another) new name

Previously one of the best Indian restaurants in Orange County, this Tustin spot was known as Dosa Place, and then India Palace, before changing its name (and seemingly ownership) to Masala Bae following the pandemic.

Sited only steps away from the Chinese spice-focused restaurant Sichuan Impression, Dosa Place and India Palace specialized (thought not exclusively) in spicy dishes, and delivered excellent quality across the board. It was always hard to choose or go moderately given how many great choices there were on the menu. Buffets were also available, but not the best way to experience the kitchen’s talents.

Their mega paper dosas were breathtakingly large, crispy tubes made from rice, lentils, and fenugreek seeds – must-orders either as alternatives to more common naan or papadam. They also made a wickedly spicy Mysore dosa with red chili and garlic, as well as a delicious southern Indian dish with black pepper and green chilis called Chicken Pepper Fry.
