Curry On Pie / Curry Up Pizza
Founded in Yorba Linda early in 2025, this small Indian pizza chain expanded to Artesia in 2026
Thanks to Berkeley’s Chez Panisse, Beverly Hills’ Spago, and California Pizza Kitchen chain restaurants, “what’s authentic?” and “pineapple on pizza?” debates gradually gave way to countless “California fusion pizza” recipes with internationally inspired toppings. But as CPK lost its penchant for experimentation, multiple Asian restaurants began stepping up to riff on its formula, recently including Indian-American Curry Pizza House franchises, Long Beach/LA-based Thai Curry Pizza, groundbreaking Vietnamese/Japanese/Italian chain Pizza 4P’s, and its closest Orange County equivalent, Japanese/Italian hotspot Ini Ristorante. Now OC and LA Counties have another option.
Opened in early 2025 and expanded to a second location in 2026, Southern California’s latest Asian pizza chain operates as Curry Up Pizza in Yorba Linda and Curry On Pie just north of OC in Artesia, with nearly identical menus of Indian/American pizzas, chicken wings, appetizers, and salads. Look closely and you’ll note that Curry Up Pizza offers a few extra Indian appetizers and desserts, while Curry On Pie omits Pani Puri, masala mushrooms, and cheese pakoda fritter appetizers, and has a smaller dessert menu with entirely American sweets. Although they’re commonly owned and largely similar, we visited Curry On Pie, so our impressions are focused on the experience at that location.
The vast majority of menu choices are pizzas, divided into mostly American-style “classics,” Indian pizzas, Indian vegetarian pizzas, separate gluten free and halal pies with options drawn from the classic and Indian choices, and a “craft your own” section with nearly 30 toppings to choose from. Five pizza sizes (10-18″) range in price from $20 to $42 as all-inclusive, flat-rate pricing, letting you choose from various crust thicknesses, shapes, and recipes (standard/gluten free/vegan). Better yet, $32 large and $42 extra large pizzas offer a “half-n-half” option, enabling sampling of two different recipes on a single crust for no additional charge.
Several basic salads ($3.50 to $10), roughly a dozen mostly fried appetizers ($5 to $21) including samosas, mozzarella sticks, and fries, and a wide collection of chicken wings ($10 to $33) round out the menu, the latter offered in Indian achari, dry curry, and tandoori versions as well as lemon pepper, BBQ, Buffalo hot, and other versions. After our first visit, our small group’s only regret was skipping the wings, but we knew we’d be too full after several pizzas to eat them. Instead, one member of our group wanted to try the onion rings ($7), which used large pieces of sliced sweet onions with nicely crispy breading – and included range dip – but there weren’t enough rings given the price point.
We tried four different Indian-style pizzas split across two large pizzas, plus one traditional American style medium pepperoni pizza – and the execution was legitimately great across all of them. Perhaps our favorite of the bunch was Lamb Curry, a halal recipe with a curry base, green chilis, red onions, cilantro, and nice chunks of ground lamb atop cheese and a medium-thickness dough crust. Moderately spicy and strong in both curry and lamb flavors, each slice did at least as good of a job at conveying the classic recipe as most dedicated lamb curry entrees we’ve tried. Since chain rival Curry Pizza House hasn’t rolled out its similar lamb kabob pizza across all of its locations, Curry On Pie and Curry Up Pizza could (depending on your location) be the closest place to experience this excellent recipe for yourself. The pepperoni pizza we tried was equally meaty, a little less spicy, and piping hot, otherwise conventional in all regards.
Three additional Indian recipes – Achari Chicken, Curry Chicken, and Tandoori Chicken – captured the essence of their respective entree inspirations despite overlapping with each other (and the Lamb Curry) in concepts or proteins. Chunked chicken in the Achari and Curry pizza made the two halves look very similar, but a garlic white sauce on the Achari brightened its flavor a little more than the traditional recipe, while the chicken’s dense, white meat made the curry’s impact lighter here than with the lamb. Large slices of oven-baked chicken, onions, and scallions stood out more than tiny tomato chunks in the Tandoori Chicken half, while the cheese – as with most of the pizzas – receded into the background. In each case, the standard crust reminded us enough of naan that we wouldn’t opt for the thinner version, but that’s available if you want it.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit to Curry On Pie enough that we’d certainly come back for another visit, though we’re likely going to give Curry Up Pizza a shot in Yorba Linda, first. Wings will be high on our list of “must-try” items next time, and possibly some of the Indian appetizers and desserts, as well. We’ll update this article with additional details as soon as we have them.
