Brodard Express
John Wayne Airport's miniature location of a classic Orange County Vietnamese restaurant
Orange County’s John Wayne Airport offers travelers something special: a miniature location of the famous Fountain Valley restaurant Brodard Vietnamese Cuisine, which has spent decades as a local go-to destination. Brodard’s menu canvasses northern and central Vietnamese dishes, enabling guests to sample many of the country’s most famous specialties, and though Brodard Express is a lot more limited, it’s a great option for airport dining.
At Brodard Express, you can get the original restaurant’s famous, unfried rice paper and pork sausage nem nuong rolls and multiple other spring rolls – employees are actually hand-making them on the spot – as well as banh mi sandwiches, bun vermicelli bowls, colorful macarons, apple danishes, and other pastries. Their prices are pretty reasonable by airport standards, too; only a little higher than dining at Brodard itself.
Across multiple visits, the nem nuong rolls at Express have ranged from good to as impressive as the ones at Brodard, and we’ve also enjoyed the bun vermicelli, which though $18 to $20 per bowl remains an ample meal in and of itself. On the other hand, almost all of the macarons we’ve ordered were stale and nearly flavorless.
Despite occasional issues, this is still a better lunch or dinner option than virtually anything else currently at the airport. Though that may change with new restaurants expected to open at SNA in 2026, there’s every likelihood we’ll continue to seek out Brodard’s rolls whenever we travel out of SNA.
