LSXO – Closed

In Huntington Beach, elevated Vietnamese offered a feast for the eyes (and for some, ears)

We described LSXO with two words: “picture-perfect.” Elevated in presentation if not in flavors or textures, each Vietnamese dish arrived looking as rustically beautiful as one might expect from an exotic travel magazine, and the tiny (28-seat) upscale dining room inside Bluegold overlooked a classically Californian swath of Huntington Beach at the Pacific City shopping center.

It was all a feast for the eyes; everything tasted pretty good, too, offset only by premium pricing and a frosty front desk – LSXO sat inside another restaurant, Bluegold, vaguely like a speakeasy without the mystique or parlor tricks. One got the sense a memo was initially circulated long ago to make entry feel exclusive, and no one sent the follow-up memo that truly great places now are commonly gracious when they’re overflowing with customers, at a minimum to keep people coming in after tables turn.

Thankfully, LSXO’s dining room service was considerably warmer than the front desk, and playfully balanced with an intentionally edgy hip-hop soundtrack. There was even something approximating an explanation, rather than an apology, posted on the wall for those who might not appreciate the soundtrack. (As hip-hop fans, we loved the music, but it was a choice.)

We sampled the Ca Kho To (caramelized clay pot salmon in coconut), Lamb Satay, Ga Xao Xa Ot (spicy lemongrass chicken), Autumn Rolls (filled with jicama), Beef Tartare (with puffed cracker), and two types of chocolate cake. Everything was quite good, and though nothing was a huge flavor standout from our favorite Little Saigon alternatives, LSXO’s presentation was on a higher level than anywhere but Nep Cafe at its best.

Unlike the larger and less distinctive Irvine location Little Sister, which we’d consider a pass overall, LSXO was worth trying at least once for the date-worthy view and dining room experience. In May 2026, LSXO was “reimagined” as a new location of Little Sister.
