Ubenabon

Cinnabon may not be single-handedly responsible for obesity in the United States, but the chain’s famously delicious cinnamon rolls contain around 900 calories worth of bread, sugar, and fat – around half of a person’s total recommended daily intake, assuming you eat just one. So when we came across the amusingly named Ubenabon at the 626 Night Market, health concerns were the only reason we didn’t order five or six of their cinnamon rolls at once: Their ube- and pandan-topped cinnamon rolls make Cinnabon’s look tame by comparison.

Most of the Ubenabon rolls combine cinnamon and ube within the roll itself, for a square-ish purple and dark brown/black block of sweet bread that’s fine on its own; there’s also a green and brown pandan roll in the collection. The excitement comes from the frostings, which include even brighter green pandan and purple ube versions, as well as cream that accompanies cheese, Oreo, cookie butter, and red velvet toppings. An Ube Overload version includes an ube roll, ube frosting, an a scoop of ube on top, really maxing out the potential of this concept.
